Yobo is 30 next month. I like him a lot, but his career seems to have stalled over the last couple of years. Perhaps he needs a fresh challenge.

I think it was during the U21 European Championships a few years back that Taylor looked like John Terry at his best. He was leading by example and dominating his strikers. We've previously discusses how Jags and Heitinga are both under 6 ft and how partnering them would leave us prone to high balls. Taylor is 6 ft 2. He could deal with the aerial threat, whilst Jags used his pace and reading of the game to sweep up. It would be exciting to have a potential England defensive duo in our ranks.

It's reported that Newcastle want £4m for Taylor, given that he's in the final year of his contract. The sensible thing to do would be to sign him to a pre-contract in January, rather than offering a fee or a swap now. As he's over the age of 23, we wouldn't have to pay Newcastle any training compensation, as far as I understand it. It would be revenge for them snatching Gosling from us and it would help to bring down the average age of our squad. Signing an English player is always a positive wherever possible too. I'm sure that Moysie could make a great player out of him. The only quibble is that he's not left-sided.
