I know that Martinez won't ever change his formation but I think he should play 2 up, lukaku doesn't hold the ball up well enough to play the lone role IMO, he would benefit from a partner! I think lukaku/naismith or lukaku/etoo with Barkley behind would be spot on! I wish he would at least give it a go, even for the last half hour of a game or something! His lack of 'plan b' is becoming very frustrating!

I think the biggest part of his game we've missed recently is his constant harassing of opponents on the ball. He never gives them a minute.

We have missed his chasing down in the midfield which he gets no recognition for - also his goals!

Statistically that's borne out...well, almost...in relation to our more advanced midfielders and forwards, anyway

If you take 'duels/duels won' from the OS as the key piece of data on this, he's had 169 duels winning 48% of them. Numerically, that's slightly more than Lukaku who had 158 duels winning 34% of them. But percentage-wise his duel winning is slightly lower than Barkley who has won 49% of his duels.

I think the last games without Naismith and McCarthy have demonstrated how reliant we are on their workrate and energy,we look dead without them, the problem is we are going to ruin the pair of them at this rate its no wonder they've both done their hamstrings.

Can't argue with stats, but does winning a duel simply refer to winning the tackle or does it refer to forcing a misplaced pass etc?

Well, exactly. The OS breaks stuff down into interceptions, blocks, clearances etc. I just took 'duels won' to be a more broad based accumulation of all that.
