England midfielders Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have been named among 15 midfielders on the shortlist for the 2012 FIFPro World XI.

Eden Hazard, David Silva and Yaya Toure are the other Premier League players to be nominated by fellow professionals.

Three midfielders will be selected for the team, which will be announced during the Fifa Ballon d'Or Gala on 7 January 2013.

Nominees: Xabi Alonso (Spain and Real Madrid), Sergio Busquets (Spain and FC Barcelona), Cesc Fabregas (Spain and FC Barcelona), Steven Gerrard (England and Liverpool), Eden Hazard (Belgium and Chelsea), Andres Iniesta (Spain and FC Barcelona), Frank Lampard (England and Chelsea), Luka Modric (Croatia and Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Germany and Real Madrid), Andrea Pirlo (Italy and Juventus), Franck Ribery (France and Bayern Munich), David Silva (Spain and Manchester City), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany and Bayern Munich), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast and Manchester City), Xavi Hernandez (Spain and FC Barcelona)

Think a 10 year old listed the first players he could think of - a predictably boring nomination list not based on more than just the last year of football. one question though, if this is for FIFPro world XI, who's going to play in goal?

How anyone can look at that list and not burst their sides with laughter upon seeing fat Frank and Dead 'ard Gerrard is beyond me. I'm trying to think of an analogy that would suit how much they stick out like sore thumbs, but none would do it justice.

Just amazing really.

ah it's just the midfielders shortlist

i just shook my head and thought, if you would have given me 15 midfield slots and said guess who they picked i would probs have got 13 right, not expecting the occasional sub frank lampard to get on it. I would have probs predicted gerrard because he was so good in the euro's :s fellaini's stats will far outweigh a few on that list and would never have been thought of consideration

I'd take De Rossi over either of them easily, and Arturo Vidal, where the hell are they? They're just two off the top of my head but I'm sure there's more who you'd swap for those two.

It's the same players every year, they just look at who's got the best rating on the FIFA game that year.
