People just didn't understand the reflection of Western Society within a Opaquely Totalitarian framework which is sad, because it's two very different films which juxtapose themselves so seamlessly.

People didn't actually realise what they were watching.

Excellent point, well made. And loads of giant insects ripping people apart. Major message kill earwigs at every opportunity!
