Stanley Kubrick

I'd say it's pretty good to be honest. I mean we'd all obviously have our own top films but when they all have about 200,000 votes generally from film fans then it's pretty reliable.

The top film is Shawshank Redemption, 4th is Batman. That's ludicrous in whatever way you look at it.

Best film: 2001
Favourite film: 2001
Most under-rated film (if that's possible for Kubrick): 2001, for the reasons illustrated on this thread that nearly always come up whenever the film is discussed. A perhaps better indicator of how good it is would be that you can detect little bits of it in almost any science fiction film made since.
Most over-rated film: A Clockwork Orange

Overrated is absolutely A Space Odyssey, I have no idea how it has such a high score on IMDB etc... when it's excruciatingly painfully slow, which is just about bearable in the 'arty' sense, but then that absolutely bizarre and useless ending makes it one of the worst film I've ever seen.

In total agreement with this - It's a chinstrokers wet dream for pseudo intellectuals

My faves:

Strangelove
FMJ
Eyes Wide Shut
Spartacus (even though he disowned it!)
Paths Of Glory

WTF?:

2001
Barry Lyndon
The Shining

Loved AI, too. It's a very touching film.

Doctor Strangelove is a top movie. Mainly down to Peter Sellers performances

Strangelove is such a witty and scathingly clever satire, too. It works on so many levels.

"Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday Machine is lost, if you *keep* it a *secret*! Why didn't you tell the world, EH?"

It's both hilarious and spinechillingly close to howwe actually operate in real life.
