Just watched one of the most bizarre and uniquely Scottish video's
Essentially, it was released just before Italia 90' and recapped all the "highlights" of Scotland's previous World Cups. Andy Gray hosted and they got some pretty decent talking heads in Alex Ferguson, Dennis Law and Graham Souness.
All of what you'd to be included was included (Archie Gemmils goal, getting humped 4-1 by Brazil in 82', the generally decent performances in Germany 74')
I find it so surprising that one of those sides from 74-86 couldn't get out of the group. In some ways I think Scotland actually had the better players during this period than England but England did better in the tournaments.
They actually went the whole tournament undefeated in 74' but went out on goal difference. They had a torrid group in 86' though with Germany, Denmark and Uruguay. Not surprised they didn't make it out of that group.
There were some funny moments, such as Denis Law suggesting that Italia 90' would see a lot of attacking football and Ferguson declaring that Costa Rica were the worst team at the tournament (Costa Rica beat Scotland in the group stages)
It was a weirdly depressing tape but I admired the sheer gal of them to kind of try to spin small moments as big moral victories but also kind of doing it in a tongue in cheek way as if to say "We're really struggling to fill 40 minutes here lads. There's only so many replays we can show of that Gemmil goal"
It encapsulated all the things I like about the Scots basically
If I had to point to a video that sums Scottish football and the Scots themselves, I'd point to this one.
Here's some Scottish fans hanging out with some Swedes at the tournament
