China's 'One Child' policy has had the horrific side effect of a boom in stolen children. It is estimated that 70,000 children are kidnapped there every year and traded on the black market.

When you only have one child most families want a boy. Not only do you get the inevitable 'disposal' of girls by whatever means you also have the looming problem of large numbers of young males without a girl. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't start a war to keep them all occupied.
