Correct, but McCarthy only ever played for Ireland. Rice on the other hand has played for Ireland on numerous occasions before switching to England. He (if you're inclined to call someone a traitor) is by far more of a traitor.

All the Irish ones in the 80s and 90s was so they could play in world cups etc nothing to do with identity issues you are looking to deep.
