We've not improved though? Look at the league position since Martinez first season and now this season with Koeman

And statistically if your not playing first team football by 23 in the premier league your chances of making it in the league are slim

Statistically we showed you a mountain of Everton players who broke through well after 23.

Your opinion is not very valid.

Remember Nigel Martyn? He was crap and over 30.

OP is right, we need 17 year olds with no experience in the side. Then we'd be winning.

For years now we seem to extend deals on over 30 year old players until they literally cannot walk. Is this primarily as we are simply unwilling to invest and see it as the cheaper option!? It's costing us

Signing older players thirty upwards is also affecting us. They are usually coming past their best and unlikely to improve and then need replacing sooner rather than later

If you look at Spurs and Liverpool they have a policy of bringing in players under a certain age and it's working wonders. You get players hitting peak and ones who are young and hungry for success with lots of energy. Plus they are around longer so the team gels as your not having to look to replace all the time

Name one good player we have signed over 30 in the last decade!?

The weird thing is that sensible business would be to sell them once they hit 30...instead we keep them around till theyre past their best and then in some cases extend their contracts.

Totally insane

.....the old fellas have largely served us well, Barry has been great as an over 30 year old. I suspect the new regime have a strategy to bring in high quality youngsters with real potential. Time will tell.

It's alright signing these players as short term solutions. However the contract extensions are the main concern. Hibbert got an extra deal when he was finished, and now it would also seem has Barry.

It's working for Milan for example

And now for Spurs and Liverpool once top six sides now championship contenders

Ermmmm.....they're not in the Championship. Are you saying their preference for youth will have them relegated?

We don't have younger players with leadership qualities. That's why we keep the old(er) ones around.

They have no leadership qualities in fairness. Is underperforming and losing leads like we have done over last couple if years is good leadership? Jags barry baines have been great servants but are obiviously not leaders. Reaults and performances in particular the way theis team has consistantly lost leads late in games over a long period of time have proven this.

Having 30+ year olds is great for experience, our problem is we have to many in our team. We have the oldest defence in the league. We have one of if not the oldest midfielder in the league. Unlike Gerrard of Lampard he's not a great finisher.
You can see Barry is really struggling this year with the pace. As is the back 4 which is causing problems as we can't push up as a team, which is how Koeman plays
