I'd argue the opposite is true. We're overloaded with players who are very young (Holgate, Galloway, Davies, Dowell) or past their prime. Sure, that balances out to an average age of 27, which is in a footballer's prime, but without having too many players who are actually in their prime.

our older players aren't necessarily showing too many signs of decline though - jags, barry, Williams are all looking good at the moment, as they fall off the younger players will be getting up to the age to start replacing them (with a few smart acquisitions of course)
Galloway and Holgate look well capable of playing first team football and can slot in along the backline, all they're really lacking is an amount of experience; but Holgate's put barely a foot wrong in the first team and Galloway is off getting experience at west brom
hopefully davies will be given some time on the bitch this season to begin to learn the barry role

I agree on all fronts. The caveat being this isn't exactly the ideal squad composition, although that is not at all the fault of the current regime. It's just a thing that happened.

Saw a graphic on Twitter earlier that may be of interest. Pretty decently balanced.

Yes-ish. Ideally you have players outside of the red lines providing cover for the guys in between the red lines. Right now, Everton have four players between the red lines who are playing backup to those outside of their primes.

So, yes the squad composition looks right, but Everton will probably have among the fewest minutes played by players in their physical primes.
