Anyone know what the average squad age is for our first team? Seems overnight like its gone from youthful to ageing!

Didn't realise Miralles was now 30

If you picked that up from my post in the other thread, that's his age for the majority of matches next season. Apologies for the confusion.

On the whole, the average age in the squad is between 27-28, which puts them more in line with the clubs in the bottom half of the table than the top 6. Man City I think are also between 27-28.

City did have one of the oldest but they've gone heavily on youth, I've long said we should go this way. We are the second oldest average age club now

So should be in their primes

It's certainly something to keep an eye on, but I don't think it'll hurt them this season. The real trouble is that of the players in their mid-20s, only Barkley, Lukaku and Deulofeu seem assured of playing time going forward. Cleverley, McCarthy and Garbutt don't seem to be favorites of Koeman, and Funes Mori's play is so erratic it's hard to guess what he'll turn into.

Yes/no. That includes players like Dowell, Davies, Tarashaj, etc who aren't going to account for many minutes. Of the six or seven oldest players in the squad, only Kone is not a first XI player. I wouldn't be surprised if Everton had the oldest squad in the PL by minutes played this season.

The 14 players that have started league games for us this season through three games has an average age of 27.3.

The problem is with an ageing squad is you have to replace more often and if you buy an aging player it's very hard to sell at a profit. It's ok having a few elder players you can replace now and again but when everyone's old there will come point when too many need replacing at once and we are going to struggle to do it!

True, but it's a bit skewed by Holgate's presence in the first XI due to Coleman's injury, as well as starts by Funes Mori and Deulofeu, who have since been "replaced" by older players.

Phil Neville and Moyes brought it up one year and within two years we had a much younger team. Seems like we are going the other way now

honestly we're one of the last teams that should be concerned about age

davies, dowell, dyson and walsh are all around the fringes of the squad and we've just bought in a 19 year old courted by a few top teams

Holgate and barkley don't look at all out of place

I'd argue the opposite is true. We're overloaded with players who are very young (Holgate, Galloway, Davies, Dowell) or past their prime. Sure, that balances out to an average age of 27, which is in a footballer's prime, but without having too many players who are actually in their prime.

We needed players in their prime this summer. Three of who we brought in are between 26 and 27.

Williams is in his prime as a defender. Stekelenburg is a keeper so a bit different.

Still should've got more in but there is nothing wrong at all with the deals we have done.
