Also, his view of 'the future' has been incredibly accurate.

The biggest example was when he had a passenger jet crashing into the Capitol Building in Debt of Honor, long before 9/11 happened.
Probably not the thread for an in depth discussion on this but...... Coincidences about future events do occur.... There was a book written in about 1890 or something which described the sinking of a huge new 4 funnelled boat on its maiden voyage fom england to America.... It hit an iceberg and sank with a tremendous loss of life due to th lak of lifeboats.....the ships name was...Titan.
Like I said, not the thread for this but eerie all the same.

Didn't read his books but loved the movies.

Red October: I never get tired of watching that. Ever.

Patriot Games: Ok but introduced me to Sean Bean who I love.

Clear And Present Danger: Best conversation in a movie....

Jack Ryan: "How much to rent the helicopter?

Salesman: "It is not for rent. It is for sale if you like."

Jack Ryan: "How much?"

Salesman: "Two million dollars."

Jack Ryan: "Well, I'll have to take it for a test run."

Salesman: "That's is fine. You just need to leave a deposit."

Jack Ryan: "How much?"

Salesman: "Two millions dollars."

Jack Ryan: "Do you take a check?" (Hands him his CIA business card)

Salesman: "Most certainly."

Bah, when I said 'future' I was more aiming for military tactics/methods and technology. Yeah it wouldn't take a great stretch to come up with this stuff (for instance his use of drones in The Bear and the Dragon was about 10 years before drones started being used extensively), not really aimed at predicting historical events past/present/future.

Did anyone think after reading the books that the red october ryan (Baldwin?) would have been better for all the movies than indianna jones?

Can't argue with that.... The films I've seen are ace.

Yeah, I thought his portrayal of the character was in line with the books better. Red October was the best movie.

RIP Mr Clancy. Red Storm rising was epic.

I read quite a bit about terrorism/espionage both factual and fiction. I think in terms of behavioural trends for terrorists and armed struggles the intelligence agencies could be working up to 30 years ahead of the curve in some cases.

For instance. The lone wolf style of attack we've seen both sides of the pond recently where talked about well over 10/15 years ago.

I am gutted as jock said, when I read this, this morning.

One of my favorite authors, and my two most loved books are written by him (Red Storm Rising, and the utterly superb Without Remorse).

RIP Tom. The image on the back of my copy of Red Storm Rising, of you standing on USS Iowa's deck sums it all up for me.

My favourite of his, that one.
