...fire MK1, SH-W of 64 Squadron. Following combat over the Channel on 15th August 1940 with Leutnant Gerhard Müller-Dühe (of 7. Staffel, Jagdgeschwader 26), Pilot Officer Roberts belly-landed this Spitfire at Calais, near Calais-Marck airfield.
Roberts was taken to Calais-Marck airfield, where he was entertained by Hauptmann Walter Rubensdörffer, Commanding Officer of Erprobungsgruppe 210, the Luftwaffe fighter-bomber unit, when he returned from a mission against England.
Later that day, Rubensdörffer would be killed in action when leading his unit in a raid against Kenley airfield, mistakenly hitting Croydon airfield due to the poor weather conditions in the vicinity of the target. Gerhard Müller-Dühe was killed in action over England 3 days later.
