i always wonder how this first club stuff works. if they were the first, who were they playing against? i suppose it would have to be someone from abroad.

But the first club ever - how could they have existed with nobody else to play

It was initially a recreational club, and still is. Like most clubs in Spain :)

Another example is Chester City - It was getting loads of coverage before going under. Hereford too.

Not really; that they are in trouble gets a mention but rarely does the truth about what is going on at those clubs get mentioned, except on some internet sites (the excellent twohundredpercent being the most notable) and occasionally locally. Your example Chester was invariably portrayed as a club in crisis, but very few media outlets accurately reported that the problems were down to the type of person that took them over and what they were actually doing.

Or if we are talking about likeable teams, just look at Wrexham. There in the past fifteen years it has been the fans who have got rid of owners who wanted to kill the club off for the land it occupied, who managed to force out owners who questionably sold off some of the land the club owned, then dealt with various shady folk wanting to buy the club, and finally obtained it themselves - and now it is run properly, and isn't at risk of going under.

Wrexham fans are a decent bunch too
