If money wasn't an issue would you go to space

I'd love to go into space, but this is not for me. It's not just money thats the consideration here.

First, there's the impact to the environment. The fuel burnt on those flights is obscene (I'm sure I heard that 1 spaceflight burns more fuel than 400 long haul flights). Makes a mockery of the big 3 entrepreneurs claiming they care about the environment.

Then, there's the real problem. I couldn't think of anything worse than being stuck for hours or days in a tiny capsule, with no basic comforts. Even worse if it's open to everyone. I'd imaging those capsules will feel even smaller and less appealling once you cram a few obese, obnoxious, farting Americans onboard.

I voted no.

I love space and everything about it. But I don't want to go up there in its current guise, things could go wrong far too easily and then you would be screwed. Also the distances between stuff is massive. What we deem as space tourism right now is going up into suborbit, it's not even real space.

More than anything though I hate how something as awesome as space is now turning into a plaything for the likes of Bezos and Branson. They own everything on earth, leave space alone you greedy gits.

Are we having a whip round to fire Football Bingo Benny into the Sun?
Surely Hammy Rodz would be more than happy to donate a fraction of his weekly wage to remove this stain from our Club, so he can play for us again?

I'm obsessed with space and stuff like that, the sheer size of everything when you try and comprehend it just fascinates and terrifies me. I don't even like flying normally so you aren't getting me in a rocket unless I've chosen my records and am ready to meet my maker. Jeff Bezos for example, you've got all that money why risk your life? I wouldn't have a private jet even if I was a billionaire let alone a spaceship.

No, not a chance. The illusion that ordinary folk can escape this planet is part of the construct to keep us all buying stuff, consuming rather than going after the corporations that are threatening our existence.

Most exciting bit would be take off and descent. I reckon the actual being in space bit would be underwhelming in comparison once the novelty of no gravity had worn off. If we could somehow visit other planets even without landing on them then that would instantly make it way more appealing.

on a side note, i wonder if anyone has ever banged up in space ? If I was stupidly rich maybe I’d hire a bunch of hookers and become the first member of the 62 mile high club

I had this conversation with my bird when watching Gravity or Interstellar one of them. You'd have to wouldn't you?

Imagine being happy to see the only known habitable planet destroyed and future generations doomed, just so you can walk round in Primark gear.

This planet needs a good ol' global disaster. Where are the asteroids when you need them?
