Some of you lads may know - False Advertising - PC World

I went out and bought an iMac about two weeks ago. It was advertised in Currys at a certain price, and below that, on the Point of Sale ticket, it stated that the iMac contained 16GB Ram at 1600mhz. I bought it from PC world rather than any other outlets cause of this very fact. It was only available anywhere else with 8GB Ram at 1600mhz

After buying it, it became apparent that it only actually had 8GB Ram inside the machine, though it was in fact running at 1600mhz. i spoke to them and they said that they will put in an additional 8GB Ram free of charge, but when I picked it up, I asked a few questions and it transpires that they had put in *GB Ram at 1033mhz, which I know will have an affect on the existing 8GB buy only being able to run at the slower speed.

They have informed me that they are unable to do any refund, and cannot to their knowledge source the correct RAM.

I expect that it is completely possible to source the RAM, but just not at an expense they like.

Where do I stand?

Have you got proof that this is how they advertised it?

If so, then they've falsely advertised the goods that you bought, they are therefore in breach of the Sale of Goods act.

They need to either provide you with what you paid for i.e. what they advertised, or give you a full refund.

If you haven't already, you need to put a formal letter of complaint into their customer service dept. I doubt they'll provide any real resistance tbh, as if what you're saying is correct then they haven't got a leg to stand on.

Took a dated photo of the POS sticker in their store and the computer screen with details of the actual RAM capabilities.

They have to provide you with what was advertised/on the ticket. As soon as you paid it was a formal contract. They must either fulfill the contract or return your money. End of.....

In that case - you win.

Get on to them & quote the Sale of Goods act 1979, saying that the goods are not "as described" & what are they going to do about it? as their first attempt at resolution left the machine still not "as described" & you're not prepared to accept it until it is.

I would do this, but have playing from a stereo NWA's hit " Straight outta Compton" while negotiating with them playing in the background.

Bounce in dressed as one of the Blazing Squad. Everyone knows they're pyar gangsters and the manager will shiit himself.

Tell him you and your mates will park your caravans on his car park, he'll quickly find the right piece of kit......
