Solvency and summer transfer expectations

Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
The Telegraph have done a study into the solvency of PL clubs, basically looking at how much each club can fund their debts through their own trading operations.

We're in 16th place, ie not in a very good way financially. So don't expect to see us buying anyone fancy this summer unless we sell someone for big bucks.

Oh, and before the Kenwrong naysayers pipe up about him not spending, it seems clear from the stats that we are in fact spending more than we have, but that money is going on wages rather than transfer fees.

We need to get some of the dead wood sold off or given away to save some wages. I mean, do we really need that many goalkeepers in our squad? We have howard and 2 back ups plus youth - surely we could get rid of the 2 back up that we currently have and either promote from within or get someone in who would be happy on less wages than 2 established keepers like mucha and hahnemann?
The same goes for our strikers - we have far too many floating about. Move on anichebe, baxter, mcfadden, stracqualursi and silva as that will save some wages too. It's not like they get regular playing time, and we have others breaking through the youth system in mcaleny and hope.
It's a start anyway!

Savings will only go so far though. It's quite telling that the article uses United as an example. Before the Glazers took over their commercial revenue was a couple of million. Now it's over £100 million a year.

The reality, unfortunately, is that the club need to get more money out of each of us. I mean look at Spurs in the table. They generate a huge amount of money, despite not having a huge stadium. They do so largely because they have some pretty well heeled supporters. Y'know, the kind of folks that pretty much everyone on here hates.

It doesn't look good does it. Its been said before but BK needs to push harder for sale/investment. We are treading water and if we ever went down that could well see the end of us. The situation is all the more ridiculous because we have board members who have money but don't put any into the club. The whole board needs replacing but BK takes all the flack for the other tight asses who associate themselves with everton but ultimately contribute nought.

Provides a bit more info about each club. To be honest I'd be much happier if we took the Spurs approach as they are spending more but they're spending what they earn.

In these Financial Fair Play times we can't expect a sugar daddy to come in and do a Chelsea/Man City because you have to spend with in your means. Liverpool for instance have £100 million more income than us. That can't be right.

We know the pattern by now: sell players, give creditors their cut, give the manager what's left over.

Attempting to build a competitive squad like this is like trying to plait sawdust.

That's basically why I KNOW Moyes is taking the piss when he says he's still ambitious.

Shows how important qualifying for the CL is.

Why ?

You get feck all for getting in a qual round, apart from the expectation from fans that you should sign a whole load of top internationals, when in reality you cant even afford to pad out the bench.

Rangers are in CL every season but it hasn't done them any good, and they have been able to rest players in the league to compete in Europe.

You only make money from CL by consistently doing well in it, as much as it pains me to admit it the R/S would be classed as one of those teams, yet not being in it has dire consequences for them.

Sure I'd love us to be playing Barca, Inter etc. but not if we are going out there as cannon fodder.

doesn't seem like rocket science does it, especially given moyes' lack of rotation. Tbh, that maybe why we can't perform for a whole season, i mean imagine if we started the season on fire, the amount of effort, tracking down etc. we play with every single game would take its toll. I think the reason we have so much backup is because we normally seem to have horrendous luck with injuries year in year out, not been bad at all this year thankfully, maybe it was rathbone :p still do not see any need for 3 solid keepers, unless hahnemann is n a really small wage, doubtful though

We have absolutely no liquidity. What is happening at Everton right now is the definition of papering over the cracks.

Those saying we can sell certain fringe players etc. we can't, not in bulk anyway, because we need a squad.

Our operating model is one of unearthing a player whose value is over £15m every two or three years so as to cover the black hole in our finances.
