So...... Would you ever wear red socks ?

Why anyone wears any socks other than black socks is beyond me.

Except football players on Saturdays obviously.

I've just googled these.

They actually have a pair of red socks as their crest.

A pair of socks.

As their crest.

America lol

The team dates back to 1901. Originally named The Americans, in 1906 they changed their name to Red Sox. The logo has been around, in various forms since. FWIW, Fenway Park is pretty much the Goodison of Major League Baseball as well.

I'd think as Premier League fans, things like tradition and history matter. Even if it seems silly in modern times.

It's not like we aren't here supporting a team nicknamed after candy...

We are named after a district of the city lid and the mints are named after Everton.

Not taking the proverbial out of tradition mate, I just thought a pair of socks on a crest was a bit funny.

(Oh and why did you change your name from 'The Americans?' I would have thought in terms of branding that would be a sure fire winner in your neck of the woods.)

In regards to candy, didn't know about the mints, was referring to the teams nickname, The Toffees. (Aware of the shop, and the toffee lady, etc)

And what's the story behind the socks (genuinely interested now)?

Not terribly much to it, really. They never had an official nickname - Americans and Bostons were just named used to describe the side. They changed their unis after the '06 season and people started calling them the Red Sox as they wore red stockings. It's stuck since.

Between the logo, the oldest ballpark in America and even the adjustment (not sure of year) to Olde English style B on the cap, it's the clubs effort to maintain the links to their past.

Other old clubs do so as well, like the Detroit Tigers and the "D" logo on their cap... (google Magnum PI for a good view).

I'll take the Sox logo over, say, the constantly changing silly logos of newer clubs, like the Arizona Diamondbacks.

And, no, won't wear red socks... which means, no, I won't go "Full Uni [Poor language removed]" at any point in my life.

(edit: no worries, didn't come across as condescending.)
