So, What Went Wrong?

So, it's a game of opinions. In your opinion, what went wrong or didn't help our cause today?

Mine;

  • 4-5-1 - To work, you need at least one midfielder to support you striker. None of ours even looked willing to do just that until Cahill came on.
  • Balance/Movement. None of it. Even the centre of the team had no shape to it.
  • Coleman left wing. The balance was bad enough without opting to put two players needlessly out of position (Drenthe has never played right wing in his career prior Everton).
  • Leon Osman. The worst I have ever seen him.
  • A centre back Distin replacing a 'midfielder' Neville and pushing Heitinga into CM. What was wrong with Cahill, Bily or Barkley? - Again, Heitinga isn't a CM, why do we persist in round pegs and square holes?
  • McFadden being your last throw of the dice - at right wing. When was the last time the lad played a competitive game? There were other options on the bench.

Well all i can say is that was such a poor performance, Saha look totally out of it and i feel that we are lacking the threat in midfield with Rodwell,Nev,osman it was so defensive looked like they really didn't want the ball passing back rather then pushing up.
With the creativity in the middle, yes Arteta was a good sale but we need someone with flare in the middle someone who can pass it around everyone slates Billy but put him in the middle thats where he plays for Russia and does well so why not try or put Barkley there but they need someone try some youth if we have to.
With the own goal and(dirty Gosling) pen shout it could of been of so different but the crosses were poor today and and Saha looked total off the pace today COYB i know times are hard but its time to stand up and be counted.
So if you feel im wrong please let me know you thoughts

I agree with everything except the 'Coleman left wing' comment. Not sure what you meant by that. Regardless Drenthe has been awesome on the right, and he himself has said he's more comfortable there.

Mainly piss poor performances across the eleven. The formation is secondary when so many players are sub par.

no confidence, no quality in midfield or up front and no cutting edge same as normal theses days, it needs shaking up, but how and were we get the players or formation from to do it, i havnt a clue

Wait....hold on....Mattd?

Would you start Coleman left wing against Wolves?

Drenthe is a left sided player. He went to a World Cup, and signed for Real Madrid as a left sided player.
Coleman is a right sided player. He has done wonders to establish himself a professional footballer on the right hand side of the field.

Heitinga is a centre half...
Neville was considered a right back for Man Utd and England...

That's four players playing a professional sport at the top of the game out of their natural position - and you have Saha sulking because he's up top with no support.

We lob McFadden on an stick him right wing.

And then people wonder why...

Barkley will no doubt be put out on the wing when he gets a game - despite him being a centre midfielder.

Infuriating.

We're just ****. Before the own goal we were actually doing alright in the **** stale kind of football that teams like us are capable of. After that the players totally lost confidence as it was a **** goal with terrible defending all round. Then we go 2-0 down, never going to come back from that with one striker and no attacking tactics so it's game over.

****e.

Heads are already down. Considering a daft early goal like that was suicide

I don't even know where to begin about players in the wrong positions, gladly it's all been said above. Crazy

It's always bad to consider an early goal

For me, Heitinga shouldnt have even started (i dont blame him for the goal mind - that was just bad luck could have been anyone) i just dont see johnny as a first eleven player,
Drenthe is six of one half a dozen of the other, hes great when he attacks but is awful when he hasnt got the ball, and cant tackle for toffee.
tony h1bert legs have gone bless him
too many players diddnt "turn up"
