So, if you could say whatever you wanted to a referee, what's your best line? I'm a ref, working many adult & youth football matches in the US (all amateur), so I like to think I've heard most things, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

One of the adult leagues (open division Men's) I work with has several teams mostly comprised of distinct ethnic groups - so my Tuesday nights are often filled with hearing, but not understanding, Vietnamese, Arabic, Spanish, Serbian and Dutch.

It's probably good that I can't understand everything.

I was once reffed by a deaf referee.

It was sound, (sic), cos I had learnt the very basic sign language method called Makaton cos of my young lad having issues. Got every 50/50 decision.

Thats funny, i think i was reffed by a blind one last week lol

True story... once got reffed by a ref with 1 eye... he was atrocious. .. only time I've ever been sent off whilst playing football in 33 years. .. he showed me the red card 3 times and I got a 12 match ban. I would kill him now if I saw him.... still fume when I think of him.

Hate to say it, but I have worked with some amazingly bad refs - including one I had replaced at half - luckily it was at a youth tournament, so the tournament assignors were able to replace him relatively easily. They didn't use him again and he only works now with unaffiliated games not requiring current certification.

I know I'm not the best out there, but I take seriously trying to do a good job. In Colorado, I'm lucky to work with several FIFA and US National Refs who are just SO good, it makes me sick.

But when it's a bad ref, it's just painful to watch.
