Obvs the Schneid-troll will love this but anyway,

Daughter turns 18 in a week and a half and I am buying her 1st car. Living in a city insurance is high. Want to get her a small car, Fiat 500 type thing.
Does anyone have any experience with this or small cars in general? Not going to break the bank cos it will get battered on our road.

Thanks

Found a 57 Reg Suzuki Swift for my boy at 18. Really good to drive. Solid, safe, built by Suzuki in Hungary, and modest insurance. Some with 3, some with 5 doors. 1.5 petrol engine. HIs is even the right kind of Blue! ;)

Nice, thanks.
Desperate to get a dark blue one for her, she's still a blue though doesn't come to game with me anymore. Did you do the blackbox insurance thing?

Bought my daughter a 56 plate Corsa 1.2 when she passed her test 5 years ago. I paid 2 grand for it back then. A couple of months back I helped her buy a DS3 which is a lovely car. My Mrs now has the corsa and it’s still running like a dream. I always think cars are hit and miss and sometimes you get really lucky.

Corsa is what my lad has.
Nice little motor.

He does have the black box insurance thing as well.
As he didn’t want to drive down here from up north he used a car transporter. The black box doesn’t shut down and the lad driving the transporter absolutely belted it down here and the box thought it was my lad driving. Taken months to come to a resolution with them.

Not yet, but it's coming. Test put off by Covid and now gone to get educated. Btw, he is very tall, and fits in a Swift - lots of space generally, and back seats fold down to give a lot of space for sexy time
Fixed lol

Same with my daughter though, covid has meant she is months off taking her test. I am not bothered about the black box with her, she is very sensible, her brother is 16 and I dread him getting behind the wheel, def getting a blackbox for him

Man, that is so typical. Insurers are a nightmare to deal with too.

I was liking the corsa, and probs a better price than the Fiat 500

lol lol .... yeah my daughter had the black box for a while for insurance too. The DS3 she has now is a 1.6 vti, I thought insurance would cripple her but I think she pays about 65 a month fully comprehensive.... probably helps that she drives Tesco delivery vans for a living now

Daughter got a Kia Picanto, Black box insurance is a pain but I would say AVOID ADRIAN FLUX like the plague, went on the meercats the year after and she got it without a box for virtually half of what FLUX wanted. They had incorrect speed info for roads, they kept marking her down for accelerating aggressively when she was getting onto the lancs from a slip road, the box fell off the windscreen & they threatened to cancel her policy, the charge dropped cos she didnt use it fr a month... threaten to cancel, it seemed they were constantly threatening to cancel.
My lad is 18 in Jan but he'll try to get it without a box as over the 2 years its cheaper than with the likes of FLUX with a box.
