Slits or Gaye?

The Slits is such a great (mostly) all-female punk band name. But to me, the best name goes to Alannah Currie (of Thompson Twins fame) who started a (mostly) all-female punk band called "The Unf##kables." For me, this is one of the best band names ever.

With the greatest deservable respect, it's not about a name. It's about a feeling.

Choosing between Gaye's standard and the Slits' cover is a choice I don't want to make, but I'll choose the Slits' version because it's not easy reworking an iconic tune like that and making it worthwhile, which the Slits certainly did. RIP Ari Up. RIP Marvin Gaye.

The Jam eventually caught on in the USA but not until they were mostly done. I'm pretty sure that I was one of only two people in my entire high school who bought their records. Loved 'em.
