Hello all, Its chris with another weekly problem that hopefully you can advise on.

Right signed up for sky a couple weeks back, got my installation dates and got a letter with them on as well. Got my tv no problem last week and tomorrow was meant to be phone and broadband.

Except they have cancelled the broadband and phone is now not being done until monday. Here is where the plot thickens. Apparently the broadband order was done separate to the phone line and so they cancelled it a day or so ago because they needed to be together. Now sky are telling me they cannot do anything until my phone line is installed, and that will still be 2 weeks from monday, so 5 weeks for broadband all together.

Basically they have messed the order up, BT have then cancelled the order and i cannot get the service for at least another 18 days despite waiting 14 days so far.

Any advice? Spoke to them and they say there is nothing they can do. Now i am not stupid and i know there is nothing they are supposed to do but there is always something they can do. The order existed and they messed it up so as a NEW customer i am being treated like i havent paid them for months on end! Cant even get the sky box properly working until i have a broadband connection so all the on demand services are sitting there doing nothing.

Now is there anything i can say or do to speed the process up? Is there anything i can do or say to at least get some sort of apologetic gesture from them (compensation) for them messing me round so much? Preferably i want my broad band asap and clearly it doesn't take 2 weeks to do the job so any help on the matter is fully appreciated.

Cancel it and get Virgin they offer a much better service, and it's all from the one provider.
Haha believe it or not just came from them. Wanted sky atlantic and the deal with sky was far cheaper than virgin, as in 30-40 pound cheaper.

Add on top of that virgin charged me for paying them online and charged me for being late paying them if i got paid a day after the bill was due.

Oh and they told me my bill normally 3-4 days after creating the bill!

Sky is cheaper than Virgin depending what you want.

It is for me for example.

But Sky's service is utterly awful.

Honestly don't ever move house if you have Sky.

What services have you got? Virgin are generally cheaper than Sky are you factoring in your BT landline bill to this?

im gona pay 47 and get fibre optic broadband, tv line (weekends) tv entertainment + and 3d channel)

Virign for a similar deal were charging me 70 odd and adding charges randomly for paying them so close to 80 a month. I can even tkae the movies out with sky and still pay them less a month.

however no internet is a little bit of a problem, especially as i need it asap and it is at least 3 weeks away currently.

So on top of your £47 you've got a BT line to pay? Possible another £17? Couldn't you have spoke to Virgin about the deal offered from Sky they usually don't won't to lose customers and try and find you a better deal.

It seems from what your saving you're not actually getting much difference and the inconvenience of swapping and being without hasn't really been worth it.

No im paying 47 for everything, phone line included. So i dont lose any channels apart from BT sport (NEA) and gain some as well such as atlantic which i will definetaly watch. Plus can watch documentaries in 3d.

So the whole deal is fantastic, but not with no broadband it isnt.

Fibre optic doesn't require a land line like a clothed DSL connection would. Sky are jibbing you off there unless you aren't actually getting FTTP (Fibre to the premise). Chances are you may be getting FTTC (Fibre to the cabinet) then still use copper for the 'last mile'.

They did mention about switching the stuff over in the switchboard.

they also claimed no-one else could provide me with broadband whilst there was an outstanding phone order. That left me a ltitle confused because bt are technically providing me with the service also so why can't they add it to the oder, why does it have to be seperate?

So this Fibre to the premises / copper wire situation. what is the significant differences in how long it would take to actually provide to me?
