What's the GOT verdict? As someone in their mid/late 30s.....I grew up as a young lad laughing my pants off at them. Akin to Ladas. I could never understand why they were not re-branded.

I honestly know next to nothing about cars and certainly nothing technical.

However now my company has been offered what seems like a cracking deal from Skoda to supply company cars. On the face of it the deal looks good but the garage wants a five year commitment and my angst is there's still a prejudice out there that could dampen their appeal. I know they're owned by VW but not a lot else.

The cars are for project managers who let's say are probably in their late 20s/early 30s.

The model we're looking at is for Octavias but the deal would allow the individual employee to upgrade/add spec out of their own pocket.

The alternative is a deal with a Ford garage based on a Mondeo. It's more expensive for the company if you try and do a like for like basis.

So question is what's the toss up between a Skoda and a Ford these days?

The Octavia is a brilliant car. In Elegance spec it's got everything that you'd want and it'll return 60 mpg in 2L 150bhp diesel trim.

They make boss cars these days

I used a Company Skoda car before. All be it the VRS about a 51 plate really quick but a little heavy around the corners for my liking. That said I really really like the Octavia Estate.

they are alright these days, just vw parts and not made in germany some of the older models , not sure these days had vw badges on the engines.
my brother has one and likes it

Both my parents have driven Skodas since they were taken over by VW. My mum got a Favorit first, had a couple of them, then a Felicia, then a Fabia, and she's just bought another Fabia. My dad has had a Superb, and currently has an Octavia and it's lovely. I've driven most of them at some point and would say tehy are very nice cars. They're not a lot different to VW's and Audis, just the build quality feels a bit cheaper. If you compare an Audi to a VW, I'd say there was probably less of a drop off between a VW and a Skoda. I've owned Audis and VW's.

That said, I've got a Mondeo mk3 and I'm very happy with it. My dad's Octavia is probably nicer overall though. It's little things like having a 12v power point in the boot, so my dad has a little fridge in there on long journeys.

I think if you buy a Skoda, Audi, Volkswagon or Seat, you get parts of the same car, becasue they all have the same parent company, I would have thought that if you buy a high spec Skoda, it wont be far off a basic Audi, its just a question of which you would prefer to drive.

I think most car companies are like this now, Iremember watching an episode of Top Gear and they had the new Aston Martin DB9, it had the same interior as a Ford Mondeo....
