The LA Galaxy are in Newcastle for an exhibition game with the Newcastle Jets (not that this bit of trivia interest you).

What you'd find interesting is that Donovan don't seem to be all the jazz about appearing in a press conference next to Beckham. He actually looked like he'd rather be somewhere else.

He may even be thinking, "What am I doing here? This ain't Goodison Park."

Honestly, he was not looking impressed.:o

On his twitter page he seems reasonably excited, but honestly, I think the dude's just tired and all he's thinking about right now is going to Hawaii and not playing football for 5 weeks. Plus Beckham has had all the publicity for this event, so LD might be thinking "does anyone even care that I'm here?" He's pretty much mentioned in articles (the only other member of LA, with the possible exception of Buddle), but it's as a Becks tag-on.

Kay, I agree. But honestly, Beckham is slightly over-rated, don't you think. Donovan I reckon is a much more rounded player. The press has a lot to do with the Beckam hysteria. It's now becoming cringe worthy.

In years past, no to the over-rated. But now, with their age difference, I do agree that LD is more well-rounded. And he's just plain faster. But I think everyone understands that Becks is more of a celebrity even though LD is more of the player for the team right now.

I'm more interested in how many minutes each of them will play on Saturday... One half? Last 20????

EDIT: This may better belong in the World Football thread by the way...in case Evertonians don't want this here...up to you or mod to move.

You're not alone - it probably would have taken me 5 hours to figure it out. :P I only just figured out how to give someone a reputation point. Sheesh.

The game will be televised at 3 am Eastern. 1 am mountain zone where I am at.... really do not know if I will stay up to watch LD's last game with Galaxy for 3-5 years :O

Donovan said in some article that the Galaxy are treating this basically like a vacation. It's an exhibition match for $$. He'll play but probably only the first half. Hopefully he gets lots of time at the beach (and from the looks of it--justjared.com--that's already started) and lots of time to sleep and rest.

Tivo! And then I get to watch Everton in the morning! It'll be a good Fri/Sat. Unless both lose. :P

EDIT: He played a half against Real Madrid, so ldfan I think you're right, he'll be in for 45 minutes, and done.

Well, I can't blame LD for not wanting to be in that press conference. The press monkeys were salivating with glee because Becks was there & when they started asking about Posh, then, that's when I lost interest...FFS!

Any thoughts on what Landy cakes was thinking?

I would love to use this hand to slap that [Poor language removed] eating grin off of his face. We all know I am the better footballer now..... The only issue is the glare off my forehead and all these lights ... I might miss.
