After hearing rumours of a bid for Jagielka (£10 mil, p**s off!), and the confirmation by LCAB/THT that there is definate interest in N'Zogbia, a player that I think could be a key player next season if we could afford him.

So, how to raise the money?

It's not exactly a secret that we need to sell to buy. But, who do we' really need' to buy?
- A pacey, skilful winger -- N'Zogbia, Jarvis etc. (Would prefer N'Zogbia)
- A pacey, strong, 20-goal striker -- Sturridge etc.
- Back up midfielder and/or defender

But to get these players in, who would we need to sell.
- Players like Billy, Yak and Yobo could get the club maybe £10million between them, and get them off the wage bill, but there doesn't seem to be too much interest, especially in the first two, and I would like to see Billy get more of a chance in the centre.
- Or, one of the 'big five':
• Baines
• Fellaini
• Arteta
• Jags
• Rodwell

Now, ideally, I'd like to hang onto all of those players, but realistically, there's no chance.

Out of those players, at the moment, Rodwell is the one who is 'least important' to the team as a whole. Fellaini plays better as a holding midfielder, while Jags is one of the better CB's in the league. Arteta is key to creating chances (when on form), and Baines is... well, Baines.

Rodwell, however, while still young, provides us with an oppertunity to get some much needed, 'big cash' pumped into the club. With teams like Spurs, City, United, Chelsea and even the RS willing to spend big this summer, maybe it's time to take advantage, and pretty much 'offer' Rodwell.

Don't get me wrong, he's a class player, but he's not there yet. He's better than Henderson and Jones (£19million and £16million respectively) so surely £15-£20million is 'fair price'.

That money, plus any money from the sales of 'fringe players' could buy usnthe winger and striker we desperately need.

Thoughts?

Because wed get next to nothing for him

You list a player, it means you want rid. You'd get teams bidding 6mill etc for him

And you'll probably have to pay the player off cost hell have something in his contract to cover being transfer listed

Haha, okay. I didn't mean transfer list in that sense, and probably didn't explain myself properly.

But, if someone were to offer £15 million for him, would you not want us to take it?

Better than letting Jags go for that. :/

Thoeretically, can't we do what Wigan are doing with Zog, though. Say "we can't keep him, meet our price and he's off".

It'd be a fair price if he was a first choice, immediate starter at the club like Jones and Henderson were last season. £15-20m is the going rate for young English talent when they are playing regularly and playing well, because there is significant interest. Rodwell is neither playing regularly, nor playing well. At £15-20m nobody is interested. To get people interested we might have to lower the price to somewhere in the region of £12m. There doesn't seem to be the interest there was last year, he had a very poor season. Unless we transfer listed him and put him on the market for £10-12m (about as much as Zog would cost) then we'd not be overwhelmed with offers.

Baines - we'll value him higher than anyone is willing to pay for him, given there are younger full backs who are arguably just as good if not better, available for cheaper.

Fellaini - no serious interest in him i don't believe, injuries still a concern. Same as Rodwell, unless we actively sought to sell him for fractionally less than the £15m we paid, i don't think anyone would be interested at the moment.

Jags - Unfortunately, the one that looks more likely at the moment, i think £15m could get him, if Arsenal are serious about him.

Arteta - Injuries, poor form and his age would mean selling him would be pretty pointless at the moment, we wouldn't get over £10m for him, and in truth we'd be better served keeping him in the hope he recaptures his best.

Still cant believe our "fanbase" cant see the talent that Jack Rodwell has.

Maybe he should change his name to Jach Zrodbia, sign for Wigan, then you would be wetting your pants for him.

Just sayin.
