Should we play 3-4-2-1?

I always thought 4312 could be a shout for us.

Howard
Coleman Jags Stones Baines
Barkley McCarthy Besic
Etoo
Mirallas Lukaku

Baines and Coleman provide the width, and it occupies the oppositions two centre backs with a mixture of pace and power. Means Barkley gets a bit more of a chance to drive from deep lying positions with E'too being the main creator. McCarthy and Besic to cover Coleman and Baines in the engine room. Flexible to change aswell.
I'll have a huge bag of this please. We have one decent winger so there's not much point playing a formation with two wings.

With all fit, a 3 back formation could well work:

Howard
Stones Jagielka Distin
Coleman McCarthy Besic Baines
Barkley
Mirallas Lukaku

However, I'd be more inclined to play Mirallas up top, with Lukaku. We even have a B team for this (nearly)

Joel
Hibbert Alcaraz Browning
McGeady Gibson Barry Oviedo
Naismith
Eto'o Kone

Leaving squad players of Pienaar, Osman, Garbutt, Atsu mainly.

Not really a fan of a back three given that we have trouble even having two CBs healthy. 4-3-1-2 would be so interesting with our team since Rom is so much more effective with someone else up front and our fullbacks are the ones that provide attacking width anyway. Whichever three out of five of our attacking players (Rom/Kev/Ross/Naisy/Eto'o) are on the pitch could constantly cycle spots and cause defensive confusion. Would make it hard to mark Rom out of the game, which is what happens when he's the only one up front.

Coleman----Jags------Distin------Baines
----McCarthy----Barry-----Besic------- (Gibbo/Osman)
--------------Barkley------------------ (Eto'o/Naisy/Osman/Pienaar)
-------Lukaku---------Mirallas---------- (Eto'o/Naisy/Kone)

No place for McGeady/Atsu but then we're not playing them much anyway in a system that uses wingers.

This thread is boss, it's FM without having to micromanage computer psychology.

If you threw in Marshall in net, Stones in at centre back, with Delph in midfield it's pretty tasty.

Pretty much what I put, let's see if it works...
