Should penalty decisions all be checked by 4th referee using video evidence?

Going a bit far I reckon. Sometimes when you think it's a 'blatant dive' the player actually gets clipped. Imagine sending someone off for being fouled.

you could use technology in this instance because the ref has already blown for a free kick against the diver. The cheat could then protest his innocence, the 4th official will confirm he's a cheat and off he goes OR will confirm there was enough contact and it was a free kick. however this all goes back to that stupid arguement of he has the right to go down because there's contact. If it's not bad enough to impede the player in any way and they just decide to fall over because they have no better option then that's still a dive imo.

I suppose they could use red cards for clear dives and yellows if they aren't too sure, i.e. just going down too easily.

it's definitely something that will stamp diving out of the game. Risking a red card which can be reviewed to the 4th official would make you think twice. The only problem i have with the introduction of technology is the stopping of the game aspect, it's a totally different game to cricket where you have a stoppage between balls (sexy).

If the penalty is contentious there will ALWAYS be at least a minute of complaints, discussions, etc.
During this time the incident can be reviewed by an official. As it does get done on television by commentators. And if a captain calls for a review, or better yet- if the referee calls for a review, empowered by his ability to ask for assistance because he wants to make the correct decision, then that is done.
Easy peasy.
Just like when a try is scored in rugby. If its clear cut award it, if there's any doubt in your mind ask for assistance.

I would very much like the referee to just be allowed to ask for television assistance whenever he needs it, rather than players asking for reviews.
With the latter, I can still see the problem arising wherein players insist on the awarding of a penalty because of the slightest of contact. But I guess according to the rules that does constitute a penalty so whatever.
I would really like referees to be able to just ask for help. Even as a third point of call. He sees what happened but he doesn't feel he got the best view, so he goes and asks the linesman, the linesman is uncertain, so the referee just asks the TV ref who then says- well yes, aguero kind of did jump studs first into Luis' anus.
Any self-respecting referee will not abuse the system, because they will want to actually prove their own worth and ability, but similarly any self-respecting referee will utilize it, knowing the dangers of making uninformed calls.

how do they re-start play? drop ball in the 6 yard box? they just need proper training and for at least some of the greedy bastards who take so much money out of the game to give something back because they have a better understanding. I know they wouldn't be able to do it for any more than a decade, but it would be nice to see like. they all state how much they love football after all

If it a penalty, then clearly, a pen, however, if it isn't would it not be a free kick for diving anyway? The 4th official can check a replay, and if play continues informs the ref on his ear piece and he makes the decision to play advantage or award the free kick.

Also, situations such as Aguero at the weekend. He's clearly been wound up to the point of a challenge like that and continues to be a danger to others players on the pitch. The ref should really be allowed to be given a heads up on that.

Here's what i make of it.

The ball crossing the line is a factual thing, it either has, or it hasn't, no two ways about it, that's why Hawkeye can be introduced. I can only assume if hte ref suspects the ball may have crossed the line he would stop the game when the ball is in a neutral-ish area.

Secondly;

Free kicks and penalties are all open to interpretation, this is what created pub talk and whatnot, you need to have decisions made, it's all about talking points, if every decision was perfect, football wouldn't be what it is to be honest. Each referee might have a different view on a decision Hawkeye or whatever can't be used to determine the decision of a free kick or tackle.

One is fact, one is interpretation.

Yes to goalline, as that is majorly important and a factual part of the game.

No to any other decisions, as much as it is very important, each referee is different and what would be the 5th official may not agree with the referee etc.
