research suggests that heading the ball can lead to brain trauma later on in life

if the FA ban heading in football at some stage will this put you off the game?

This is old news as many studies have shown the danger were the older heavier balls (hence why Lineker was never keen on heading). The modern flighty balls have significantly less risk of causing said trauma. I thought the topic was done & dusted so surprised some 'expert' is giving it a reprise. Maybe his funding has dried up.

So what's Linekers excuse?

Imagine if it was banned, any ball punted into the box, corners, free kicks at head height, they’d have to duck, it’d cause maybem and there’d be a ridiculous amount of goals each game. It’d be like a drop ball in the box every time the ball is launched.

the 80's still had the older balls, they weren't heavier as the weight has stayed fairly constant, but the older material would soak up moisture adding weight, which is significant for regular headers of the ball. I think post-90's the materials got so good at avoiding soaking up wetness that this debate is still only really relevant to those who grew up before the 90's.

I understand why developing kids shouldn't have their brains rattling about in there, but it's debatable if heading modern footballs does that to any significant degree.

Yes it should.

Just for the funny aspect of everyone panicking when it leaves the ground. Red card offense for a header

"Should running be banned in football?" That's what will come next.

Just as a boxer or an F1 driver takes risks, so do footy players to a much lesser extent.
Madness, Ted.

There is certainly an argument that kids should not be heading football's but it's unworkable in professional football. If was introduced at maybe 15/16 years of age it may well organically be removed from the game as all a footballers development will have been without heading.
