Should all prisoners who are wrongly imprisoned by entitled to compensation ?

A jury is selected randomly from society to reflect society, so if they make a horrific error, then society should share the blame for it.

There's little that horrifies me more than wrongful arrest and imprisonment. I can't even imagine how it must feel to have your civil liberties taken away for nothing by the state.

When this occurs, everyone it effects should be given massive compensation. It goes beyond taxes etc. You're talking about a persons life, ruined by the state.

I personally think they should be entitled to £1m per calendar year they are imprisoned. I'm not arsed if it's an extra burden on the public purse as we spend enough money on pure sh*te as it is, and this is a far more worthy use for it.

Brilliantly put mate.

If you brake down what your taxes actually go towards paying then you'll end up being a very angry man.

Anyway I hate that argument.
OK, perhaps I was a bit harsh, but the idea of just suing whoever happens to have the deepest pockets rather than the actual people involved annoys me. I suppose we are talking about compensation rather than suing though which is a bit different

Of course they should be compensated, no debate.

the question should be, should we be having everyday people doing jury service??? lets make it a profession, train people up. some of my mates have been on jury service and i think, god help em!

That's the problem with democracy mate, everyone gets a say, even the uneducated and ill informed.

Dictators ftw!

like professional Reffs....yeah that really works well dunnit.

This guy has been in prison since being an young adult, basically missed out on living some of the best years of his life. Always maintained his innocence. Surely in some cases like this there should be compensation of sort?

I agree. My point really is that once it starts the floodgates will open, and the legal eagles will be demanding compensation for innocent children made to stand in the corner or given detention. The only winners will be the lawyers. If the law profession made a mistake, let the law profession pay. If money for justice is increased to pay for this there will be no end......

I could see floodgates opening too if they were allowed to.
