Short term managers

Will be a while before someone emulates the quality Moyes bought us, in terms of both building a team and getting cheap quality players, some of which are still here.

That being said he finished 17th once and we could of bought in RK or RM that year.

Imagine adding that sort of drop in form to what we had then without the ability to bail them out with money. keeping hold of DM not only gave us the platform on which to build, possibly showing the players that actually playing like donkey's won't change the manager, just the league your playing in.. but also gave us the security that when he left the squad was solid enough to survive even RM and RK's efforts to kill it.

Koeman though is the first time I have ever seen a team with literally no idea what they are doing. I would suggest in 99% of cases, it's worth giving 3 years before properly having a think about what's worked and what hasn't and if the manager is willing to change the negatives.

I fail to see the advantage of giving a manager a contract in excess of 3 years. You simply make it harder to change manager and encourage complacency. Surely if a manager is successful you offer him another 3 year contract.
If any manager can't produce a serviceable team after 2 years of fannying around, he should go and without compensation.

Trying to look at this objectively:

Ferguson was on the brink of the sack at United until it suddenly clicked and he had access to the finest academy team this country has every produced. His objective was to pass both us and Liverpool when he was given the job. He delivered handsomely.

Could Koeman, if given time, do similar?

IMO: NO.

Reason being SAF lived Manchester United. He was determined to make them the absolute powerhouse of not just English, but European football too. He never relented and he was 100% commited.

If Koeman suddenly started doing great he would be hoping that Barcelona came calling. His overall demeanour has not connected with the fanbase and that now appears to be the same with the players. There is just a general malaise about the whole set up and there is no one else to blame as this current misfiring side is of his making.

Unsworth would be a massive risk for us to put in at the helm. But, if it worked and he replicated the U23s success with the first team, no other club on the planet means as much to him as Everton. That is a quality that is often overlooked in the modern game, but it is one that can see you achieve more than when someone views the club, your passion, as just a paycheque.

No business hires on the expectation of failure; they hire to protect success.

You attract the best by offering job/financial security. So you hire on their terms to hopefully get your terms in the long run.

I get your point, but this is the obscene world of football. If anyone can't be financially secure after earning ,say, £18 million over 3 years theyhave insurmountable problems and I pity them.

They can earn it, so why wouldn't they?

Clubs still make a profit - the employees should get a cut of the money flooding into the game.

It's not the employees problem if ridiculous money is pumping into the game. They should milk every last penny they can out of it.
