Went missing 30 years ago today. I'm only 21 so wasn't alive when he was around but anyone here see him? Do you think he would have beaten the likes of Mill Reef, Dancing Brave, Sea the Stars, Nijinsky over 12f etc... or was his premature end the making of his legend?

one if not the best horses ive ever seen ,

............ I understand it's Timeform rating was recently lowered along with a number of other horses from yesteryear (Dancing Brave etc), much to the disapproval of his Jockey - Walter Swinburn. These ratings are generally used to compare horses from different era's and I think this fella is some way short of Sea the Stars and most recently Frankel.

As I understand it was his IFHA rating that was lowered from 140 to 136 and Dancing Brave's from 140 to 138. Both their timeform ratings remained at 140 as timeform have always used the same scale whereas the IFHA ratings where over inflated pre 1997. But for Shergar my own interpretation of his ability is that he was a class horse dominating a weak era much like Dubai millenium but at 12 furlongs instead of 8 and 10. In the grand scheme of things i put him maybe just ahead of Montjeu but just a shade below the likes of mill reef, sea the stars, frankel, Nijinsky, brigadier Gerard, ribot and sea bird. Just was curious as to know anyone's opinions of him who was around at the time. Or anyone's opinions in general actually.
