An inside job. Stan Cosgrove knew he was not goin to make it as a stallion. Was hoping for an insurance pay out. But the plan backfired. Horse is buried in Leitrim. And two guards pocketed the ransom that was left in the car.
Intriguing......Did he not sire anything decent then?

Thought Cosgrove spent thousands trying to locate the horse's remains afterwards for insurance purposes.

The reason why the IRA couldn't get a ransom paid was because the horse's ownership was divided up into a large consortium at the time of his kidnapping, of which I'm not certain the former owner the aga khan was part of anymore. There were too many shareholders who couldn't agree on whether to pay a ransom or not. The horse was then shot and buried in Leitrim. There was a better docu on TV around 10 years ago than the recent one which aired. They didn't have to get stan Cosgrave drunk to tell the story in it. He was one of the shareholders when the horse went missing and he vowed back then never to talk about Shergar again. He went back on his word this time when the sneaky docu makers got him drunk and slipped in the topic of shergar, but he revealed very little. A sad story all round and and effin stupid idea to kidnap the horse in the first place.
