Shameless USA

I, Claudius?

Too old for me.

I'm not a fan of old shows like I am old music, or old books. Make of that what you will.

Oh and what about animated comedy? We don't really have anything here these days, whereas the states can boast The Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Archer, The Life and Times of Tim, Frisky Dingo, Family Guy etc. And whilst a few of them have overstayed their welcome (Family Guy by about 5+ years, The Simpsons by 10+), there's a lot of class comedy in there.

'Cracker'
'Only Fools'
'Touch of frost'
'Do shut up'

''Showtime, AMC and HBO'' act on a similar principle to the BBC, pay for it! Then we sell it around the world and roll the profits into outr pockets.
I would have enjoyed a 'shameless' from a trailer park, white trash types, as racist and nasty as Frank and the selected rest are in the UK version. Exposing their stupidity and lack of education.
Shameless when new held a mirror up to both rich and poor, it lost its way when it became mainstream. I know full well no exec or producer has the brass spheres or ovaries to point out the deficiencies in American culture/society - at least originally.

I think we really do want different things then.

I wasn't looking for a statement with the US version of Shameless. Just an entertaining way to spend an hour.

I feel it would be fantastic for the US to send itself up a little, and in dramas it can, but comedies that do, do not pick on anything other than stereotypes. 'Trailer park boys' for instance.
And if all you wanted was entertainment, why watch a remake? Especially a more flawed remake.

I give any new show that isn't getting terrible reviews a chance. I gave Shameless a chance and didn't like it. I gave Shameless US a chance, and did.

They are not the same, and just because I'm from England doesn't mean I have to identify with the English one more and like it more. That said... I do identify with the English one more, but this is why I like fictional TV; it's a form of escapism that entertains imagination. If I wanted reality and familiarity, then I'd just take a walk through Toccy.

I tried the American version of the office, but again it wasn't ugly true, too many Hollywood t*ats rinsing a paycheck out of someone elses idea.

You couldn't be more wrong about that. The American version is fantastic as is the Gervais version. Again, it's not a competition. They're not, and haven't been remotely the same show since the identical pilots.

That's true. The only thing like that I can think of is Wallace and Gromit and frankly that's a massive stretch. Whereas there's a long list of top quality American cartoons.

'Cosgrove Hall' is a shame they dont produce anymore. Once upon a time we sold our cartoons to the US. (Dangermouse, Duckula, Jamie & his magic torch, and thats not including the puppetry like bagpuss, clangers etc)

I do love Wallace and Gromit, mind! :D

You do come across as very bitter, mate. "The yanks robbed our shows, ARGLE BARGLE!"

As much as I love TV, it's just entertainment. I don't really care where it's coming from, just so long as it's good and entertaining.

Sorry that I am perceived that way, hopefully it is not forum wide. Yeah I agree tv is just entertainment and so long as it is good then fair enough. Regarding whether my glass is half full or half empty - it doesn't matter to me, I just know it is time to go back to the bar.
