Did you buy a season ticket this year on the basis of your verbal agreement with a manager ?

i bought season ticket while unemployed in early bird window, i then got this job and i explained to them that i already had it before i got the job, they agreed it would be ok and told me to bring the fixtures in..

Bummer, especially as you haven'y been there long. Like others have said, try to negotiate reasonably, explaining that you have paid in advance for the games. You might be able to compromise somehow, but you'll be lucky in high street retail. Failing all that look elsewhere :)
Good luck

Whats annoying is, they agreed for me to have them off and then a couple of months later oh no you can't.. Feel like agreeing to overtime and then day before i have work go oh no actually i don't want it.

I said to them when we first agreed it that if e.f.c play sat i'll work sunday and which i have been doing and when its been England i've done the saturday and sunday.

Is the same management still in place from when you started? If they have an agreement with you based on you having already bought the season ticket and informing them thus when you started then they should stick to it. It would have been good if you'd got something in writing, but hindsight is 20/20. I used to work in retail myself (McDs) so I would never tell anyone to 'pull a sickie' as I have been on the other side of that, but if it were me I would tell them that you have an agreement that was made at the time of your hiring, and that was an important part of you taking the job. Tell them that you expect them to honour the agreement and that you will be going to the game. See if there is another time you can offer them to work or swap with a co-worker to make it easier on them also. If it comes down to it let them try and take discipinary action on them, then bring up the arrangement and stand your ground. Is it a big company/brand or just a local shop?

Working any sort of retail job and you'll be extremely lucky to get every Saturday afternoon off.

Yeah, obviously busiest time of teh week for retails establishments.

Was in work today so couldn't go, how did we play? Anyone inparticular play well or poor?
Ive seen highlights, how did kone miss!!

I feel your pain mate. I started working in Supermarket i work in in September 2010, I just blagged that i could work any day in the interview, and then when i got it, they slapped me on a saturday 11-9.30, which as you may be aware, ruins your day.

2 years on, changed it to a 12-6, which again meant i missed the footie. Being the crafty [Poor language removed] that i am, i pulled a sickie last year so i could go to Stoke away of all places, and got a tap on my shoulder 5 minutes before the game... 'Ay, thought you were sick' my manager behind me, was officially the worst 90 minutes of my life, pulled into the office on my next shift, and had to fess, got a warning, to add to my other warning, including one for watching Everton-Spurs on SkyGo on my phone, instead of serving customers

But yeah, if you're telling yourself that you could probably do it, then have a hard think about it, any doubt then either say when you signed the contract you agreed to do them hours, and that the hours you've been given are inaccessible, if that doesn't work then look for a new job.

I finally got my weekends back, and it feels great. Got promoted too, must be all those excuses 'Got a field trip to Fulham on a Tuesday night, can't work sorry'
