I won't use the word " favourite ", but the one I've found most fascinating to read about was :

Andre Chikatilo - aka The Butcher of Rostov.

Killed at least 56 women and children in and around the railways in and around the Rostov area of the former Soviet Union.

The incompetence of the Soviet authorities during the hunt for him was breath taking.
