Serena Williams meltdown at US Open Final

There's a lot of things to like and respect about Serena and she has overcome and put up with a lot in her career. I can honestly say I agree with about 90% of what she highlights and complains about but sometimes, like tonight, she really lets herself down and makes herself look like a terrible sore loser. She was outplayed by a much younger opponent and couldn't handle it. She also got busted breaking the rules (even if she didn't mean too) and spoke to a match official in a way that's just not acceptable (at least which the game is still going on). Her coach has since admitted on TV that he was in fact doing the exact thing the umpire took points from her for.

Feel so sorry for that poor lass Osaka, she looked as if she'd just ran over a child in the street and not just achieved her childhood dream. Was nice of Serena to try to get the crowd to calm down and give the champion the respect she deserved but ultimately she doesn't come out of this looking good. The umpire might by an idiot but he'll have made an honest call yet she insulted him in front of everybody, that's a poor example to set. Wouldn't expect her to apologise to him because she's entitled to feel a bit wronged but in future learn to handle things better and don't cry sexism/racism whenever you don't get your way.

Disgraceful behavior from Williams. And even worse - the fans. Anyone who held a ticket for than match should receive a ban from attending tennis matches again......utterly, utterly disrespectful to poor Osaka and wrong on every conceivable count. I was horrified watching that all unfold.

She was going to get beaten quite handily. Perhaps she could have taken the second set but even that was unlikely. She has a right to complain about a full game penalty...that was ridiculously harsh and she is definitely correct that other players have said much worse.

Sadly she's got form for accusing officials of all sorts, and is now trying to justify it by saying that men are apparently free to abuse officials like that, therefore it was perfectly fine fror her to do so and anyone that says otherwise is sexist. Ffs.
So its worth remembering that all these code violation rules were brought in when a fellow American MAN, John McEnroe, consistently exhibited similar such unsporting tantrums.

Even if there is a perceived discrepancy between the application of the rules towards women/men there are ways and means of raising your concerns.

To do so in that manner and in a match situation is not one of them. As others have pointed out, outside of matches she has a lot of relevant opinions that deserve serious discussion. Her outburst yesterday in my view can only have a negative effect on that.

She deserves further recriminations from yesterday’s outburst.

Attempting to justify unjustified moaning by doing some unjustified moaning.
