Selling Beckford was a mistake

Put it this way. We got £4m for the lad, and he scored 10 goals for us in his first season. Even if he'd only matched that record this season those 10 goals could easily have put us 4 places higher in the league table. Each PL spot is worth about £1m i believe.

On the face of it we did good business by getting £4m for him, but you'll struggle to find a player for £4m who's proven he can score 10 goals at Premier League level.

Getting rid of the Yak was even worse.

Unless we use the money to get a good striker in January it was a big mistake (Donovan? but he's not a striker), I couldn't believe we sold him. Becks scored goals, 10 or 11 in his 1st prem season, not too shabby and it was a position we had no depth at. Plus it wasn't like he was starting every game and some games he was all alone up front.

With a partner and if he was a full time starter he could have gotten 15-20. You get that and then you'll instantly be worth 10-12M in the crazy striker transfer market if we were desperate for cash.

I'd like to see his record this time last season compared to Vellios' this season. 4 mil is a good deal, not replacing him was the mistake.

Arguably our best attacking football last season was when both Beckford and Saha were played as a front two.

vs Blackpool at home, anyone? Most entertaining game of the season that too.
