Sell On Fees & Hypocrite's

I see a lot of people on here mentioning that we must constantly be looking at players who are of a young age, whom we can sell for a bigger price if they are to meet their potential, or sell on for a slight loss if they don't.

Now the same people who constantly keep mentioning 'sell on fees' need to consider this when thinking about Baines (28) and the constant link with a move to United.

Now before you all go off on one I'm not saying its clear cut 'Let's sell Baines!' But for a club who need to ensure they get the best value for their players when selling, are we ever going to get £18-20million for him again.

Look at the rumoured £20 Million we turned down (From City) for Arteta to sell him 12 months later for half that.

Selling arguably our best player isn't something I want and let's be honest looks like we may be in line to lose 2 of our top player in Baines & Fellaini but surely we should be looking to get the very best price possible?

I will await your abuse!

This is absolutely spot on. It is rampant hypocrisy. The same people who have ****ged people off for looking to move on are the same people who have completely turned on Jelavic after a poor season. If Jelavic had been slotting them for fun this year and had his head turned by a champions league team he would be a judas to these people but it's OK for them to look to ship him out at the first sign of a drop in form. We either treat the transfer market as a business, proposing young players with sell-on potential and accepting that big blockbuster fees for our best players is a sensible decision, or we take the emotive response that we are a family, the fans, players, coaching staff, administrators and all, and any deviation from that by any party is a betrayal. The 'pick 'n mix' option that many posters on here advocate where fans and players are held to different standards are completely irrational.

It really has to be addressed on a case by case basis, it's not a one size fits all solution.

When we receive a bid for a player the club has to consider many things - the players current value, his potential future value, how much a replacement would cost, can we get a better deal, would we be better of with the money or the player etc etc.

It's the same when buying a player - is he the best we can get for the price, will he have a future sell on fee, what will his worth be to the club, how much is our total budget and how will this signing impact other potential signings etc.

So, since each case has to be judged on its individual merits, I would say it is not hypocrytical of people to say don't buy Kone due to no sell on value but also say not to sell Baines regardless of reducing his future value. They are very different scenarios, bringing different benefits and drawbacks.

Is the right answer.

There is a price at which I would consider buying Kone, and it's lower than the quoted £5m.

There is a price at which I would consider selling Baines, and it's higher than today's suggested £16m.

These two opinions are neither mutually exclusive nor hypocritical.
