Secret work enemies

every time my gf moans to her mum about wanting to move to Portugal (which is a lot), her mum always says there is a lot less protection in work and employee rights being way behind, which people take for granted in the UK
Always baffles me when people champion cutting red tape and human rights as though they only apply as some sort of vexatious policy targeting them.

Surely that`s not legal ?

It`s straight out bullying.
My department manager at an old job believed a rumour she'd heard (I now know it's from my direct manager at the time, who is braindead) and basically denied me any positional/financial growth and thought I'm basically useless.

Then I had to work in a new branch that's directly reporting to her a lot more often and, by chance (colleague got pregnant), I had to be the de-facto leader of that team and her mood changed and she literally told me "I thought this and that and what they said and it wasn't true in the end, sorry", but it was already a few years down the line. I quit at the minute I got my first good job offer (which was massively better than her offer anyway )

Managers like that are horrendous and put you off the actual work. Shame as she's a decent person outside of that in reality.

I have acquired a common enemy with several colleagues I get along with quite well - the head of HR is a controlling wannabe micromanager but is very offended we're not a company like that, thus just tries to force herself into anything to give her unwanted opinion.

Said several colleagues are also the HR department - she just tortures them with random BS requests/tasks every single day, instead of doing literally any of the tasks herself, in proper micromanagement fashion.

I'm IT so naturally "anything to do with computers has to go through you", apparently also including any packages containing anything to do with computers

God I hate people like this.
