Totally agree. For ease it’s definitely better. All true but you’re paying for convenience and a guaranteed seat. Paying a membership to enter a ballot when you’re still not sure if you’ll be successful to get a ticket is obviously not ideal. Not so bad for the locals, but for those travelling long distance who need to sort hotels and transport then IMO it’s worth getting a guaranteed seat sorted well in advance so all further plans can then be made.
This is what I was thinking of doing to take my Dad to a game or two and I too noticed the weird disparity in pricing for some fixtures.
Village Street
v Bournemouth - £345
v Chelsea - £495
v Leeds - £595 ... What?!
v Suderland - £649 ... You what?!
I do find it funny how the 'better' teams are more expensive too. Because of course you really want to pay more to watch us get battered by City or Arsenal.
