Saudi prince makes bid for Liverpool
A Saudi prince has said he is prepared to spend up to £350 million to buy a 50 per cent stake in Premier League side Liverpool.
"We are currently seeking to buy 50 per cent of the shares in the club which is now suffering of debts worth £245m," Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah, who chairs private firm F6 and a Saudi-based holding firm called Fama Group, told the Al-Riyadh newspaper.

"The transaction, upon which a decision is close to be reached, will be worth £200m to £350m pounds," he said.

A Fama spokesman declined to comment. "What I know is that the prince attended the Liverpool game against Hull and signed an agreement with Liverpool to build a sport academy in Saudi Arabia," the spokesman said.

No-one at Liverpool, which beat Hull 6-1 to move to third position in table, could immediately be reached for comment.

Over the past few years, investors from Gulf Arab countries have shown growing interest in acquiring football clubs, mainly in the Premier League, which culminated last year in the acquisition of Manchester City by Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG).

Liverpool has been at the centre of this interest after its American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett said in January they were in talks to sell the club for £500m, including debt, to a group of investors from the region.

Before that, UAE-based Dubai International Capital vied in 2007 for a stake in Liverpool.

Liverpool is England's most successful club with 18 English league titles and five European Cup triumphs.

Last year, Forbes Magazine estimated Liverpool to be worth $1 billion, excluding debt, placing it as the fourth-most valuable football team in the world after Manchester United, Real Madrid and Arsenal.

£350 million for a 50% share!!??

For that he could buy us, and build us a new stadium

And we'd still win the league quicker:lol:

Isn't the Great Innocent Pardoned One going to buy them? They love him - one of their own!

They could always get an appeal going if he doesn't want to. (y)

FOR SALE (May consider splitting ass-et to suit potential buyer)

Price Negotiable

One Arse available for short or long-term Rent.. includes major brands such as Fernando and Steven "Self Defence" G as well as some lesser brands such as Lucass, Dossearner and Voronone. Some of the brands are less than attractive in the light of day - some you win some you lose.

Several previous less than careful owners - been squatting on former tenant's land for 117 years - currently seeking new home on publicly owned parkland.

Strong Brand name with significant European interests - annual participation in lucrative non-Champions competition (even when qualification is occasionally not achieved the opportunity to change the rules to fit remain a distinct probability) with offers chance to milk the cash cow for more than it's worth. Growth potential in fast growing Middle Eastern and Asian Markets a distinct possibility with opportunities for early Summer Projects in susceptible, gullible markets such as Thailand and South Korea.

New owner may assume the right to ignore any responsibility for misdemeanours (major or minor) both on or off the pitch committed by paid employees or unspecified customers.

Applicants from Middle East Oil Barons most welcome. Otherwise ability to speak Spanish or a Scandinavian language a considerable advantage (although we may stop short of accepting Osama Bin Laden as likely to be fit and worthy)

i belive that bill is trying to find investors for us but unfortunatly has achievable conditions to the deal:@

There aren't any buyers because we're not looking for any - the club's not for sale ...... yet.

The longer we go without an investor and the more the Notts County's and Portsmouths of this world are gettin high-profile takeovers, the more i am inclined to believe this

We arent for sale tho, the board is looking for "investment". Which means give us loads of money and you dont have any say in how the clubs run, im surprised people arent on the phone 24/7.

Saudis confirm Liverpool talks
Private Saudi sports investment company F6 is in direct talks with George Gillett, the American co-owner of Liverpool, to buy all or part of his 50 per cent stake in the club.
"We have not reached a final agreement yet ... We are discussing how much 25 per cent or 50 per cent in Liverpool will be worth," Gassim Hamidaddin, F6's deputy managing director, told Reuters.

F6 has signed a memorandum of understanding with the George Gillett Group for an exclusive cooperation that would lead to opening Liverpool academies in the Middle East and North Africa and develop race tracks to introduce NASCAR to the Middle East.

"There was a clause in this agreement that opened the possibility of buying a stake in Liverpool," Hamidaddin said.

On Sunday, al-Riyadh newspaper quoted F6 Chairman Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah as saying he was willing to pay between £200 million and £350m for between 25 and 50 per cent of the club.

Hamidaddin said these figures "were not 100 percent accurate".

Gillett and fellow American Tom Hicks - Liverpool's co-owner - have had a stormy relationship since purchasing the club for £219 million pounds in 2007 and neither wants to sell his stake to the other.

Hicks and Gillett were in talks in January to sell the club, England's most successful, for £500m including debt to investors from the region, including Kuwait, but talks broke down over price, one of those involved said.

Before that, UAE-based Dubai International Capital vied in 2007 for a stake in Liverpool.

Its useless, it doesnt matter what is thrown at them - they always land of their feet.

I've gave up wishing impending doom on them and just accepted them as something like the kid on our estate who had a rich dar and got brand new ace trabs every second week, boss trackies for whit (when I got nothing) and loads of boss things for Christmas.

I've done rude things to his current wife prior to them meeting that he doesnt know about so its all cool now.
