There must have been some discussion on this before but what a mess Scottish football is in.

It's not just that the professional clubs are gash but the quality of players coming through is very second rate. When you think of all the top players that have come through Scottish clubs over the years the current crop are just no comparison.

What is going on? And where are we going to get our next ace striker from if not Scotland?

I agree that at the moment the Scottish leagues are looking extremely weak. Unfortunately they just do not have the finances to compete with the bigger leagues. Take the current TV deal, the Scottish football TV deal is just 14 million pounds compared to the EPL which totals over 1 billion. Celtic for winning the league last year received 4 million whilst Cardiff who finished bottom of the Premier league received 10 times that amount. There is no way the SPL are going go be able to compete and I can see the situation getting a lot worse if the current football cycle continues.

Saying that the Scottish u17's under the tutelage of our very own Scott Gemmill looked a decent side at the U17 tournament pre-season just gone and beat some big teams. The only problem is these players will be cherry picked by the English clubs and the Scottish leagues will be left to die on their ar@e

I agree that money is a factor and would explain why many of the best Scottish players are playing in foreign leagues. This has always been the case though and over the years most good Scotsmen ended up in the English league at least. The current best players though are average at best. Joe Harper would look a world beater up there at the moment.

I think the game over there can be both exciting and fun to watch. The calibre of the teams compared to the other top divisions aren't to the same standard though

That being said, the teams are gradually getting better, although not enough to win the title

Who knows though? Maybe the slow process can keep rolling?

Whenn you think certainly up until the PL kicked in all the top sides had a fair number of Scots playing, maybe the combination of smack and global warming is stopping the ginger breed moving south

Aberdeen winning tonight has just started the title race again

Just 3 points in it now

I don't really follow Scottish football apart from a sentimental attachment to Hibernian but itsgood to see Aberdeen win. Keeps the thing alive.

they need Hibernian and rangers back in the top flight.

Used to have some good players go up North too

Scottish football has gone from having half the England squad playing in it too being worse than the vanarama league north of whatever its called
