Scottish football is on its knees. I realise they are crippled by financial constraints but there have been great Scottish players ever since the game began. Where are the Jimmy Johnsons, Sharpys, Sounesses of this world? Something is badly wrong somewhere.

On the one hand scottish clubs are at the weakest they've ever been but also so are scottish players. Their national team is awful right now.

The money south of the border doesn't help and the loss of attendences due to being unable to hold onto their best players but they just aren't producing good quality footballers at all and it's worrying. Like you said, for all their underperforming at the big stages, scottish football does have an incredible history of producing wonderful players right fron the start when they basically invented good football, but no scottish footballer of note has emerged in the last ten years. Which is why there's so few scots at the top clubs in England right now when they used to be all filled with them.

The current generation just doesn't have the talent and you have to question their youth system up there.

Its all the fault of the English. And Buckfast ffs.

Id start a Hadrian's wall rebuild before they come down on a bucky rampage.

There has always been top Scottish players but its not even that they are being poached, they don't even seem to be producing talent anymore. Fletcher is a good player, mcfadden has talent on his day, but what was the last top player? Big Dunc, McAllister, mccoist, strachan maybe? If I was a Scot I would be very concerned.

Let's be honest it's similar in England too, but we've got a load of foreigners that make our clubs perform better. If you compare the number of really good, not necessarily world class, but still quality, British players that are around now to about 15 years ago, it's hardly any.

Really you think so?

15 years ago was 96.

So Wales would have Saunders and Hartson with Rush, Southall and Hughes near the end of their careers but still arouns and now they're worse than the faroe islands. I'll give you that one.

Scotland had Hendry, McCoist ect and have obviously gone hugely down hill. So 2-0 to you.

But Northern Ireland look healthier right now.

And England? Our first eleven has gone from Seaman, Pearce, Ince, Adams, Southgate, Platt, Gascoigne, Shearer, Sheringham, Anderton and McManaman to Hart, Ferdinand, Terry, Johnson, Cole, Lampard, Wilshere, Gerrard, Young, Defoe and Rooney.

That looks about the same to me.

They don't much rate Adam north of the border funnily enough, never made the grade for either Rangers or the International team in their eyes.

He's looked okay for Liverpool so far but not as good as he did for Blackpool. Some people said he wouldn't be able to reproduce the same kind of form in a better team with bigger aspirations, where he's not the main man. Maybe they were right. Let's see.

No he didn't. And at the time when he made his move to Blackpool many Scots frowned upon it, saying it was a big step down for him.
