What does everyone make of the new proposals to reform the Scottish football league? And more importantly, does anyone care? Obviously there is a big problem with Scottish football but is this the way to solve it? Seems quite complicated to me:

Proposed Scottish league restructure:

- SPL proposal is for a 12-12-18 structure
- Top two leagues to split into three leagues of eight after 22 matches then play a further seven home and seven away games
- Leagues will be called Premier Division, Championship and National League
- Top eight teams to play for title and European places; middle eight to contest promotion and relegation in and out of Premier Division; bottom eight to decide who drops into National League
-11 out of 12 SPL clubs need to vote in favour of plans, while the proposal requires approval of 23 out of 30 SFL clubs
One league body to replace SPL and SFL

And on a side note, Rangers are threatening to leave Scottish football if the plans go through:

Rangers will consider leaving Scottish football if plans to restructure the leagues are pushed through.
Clubs are set to vote on a proposal which would create three divisions, with 12 teams in both of the top two leagues and 18 in the third flight.
But Rangers chief executive Charles Green is not in favour of the plan.
"If that's what we have sat here eagerly awaiting, my advice is the quicker we can leave Scottish football the better," he told the club website.

Where are they gonna go? Are they finally going to stop being a club? Weird.

In fairness to green I think he finishes that quote by saying

“Hand on heart today there isn’t an option but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t start looking for an option . If all we have to look forward to over the next four years is more madness then we would be failing as directors not to explore the alternatives.â€￾

Which does put a slightly different slant on the first part , namely "we'd like to quit to go somewhere else but what can we do ?"

I can understand Scottish football trying to restructure as its dying and plenty of quotes about fans turning out now rangers have gone have been shown to be miles from the truth whilst a host of prem clubs seems to be just clinging on to the their finances.

So a change seems the only option , the plans to not promote rangers does seem a little petty and a little like an bit of boot putting in though

Utterly ridiculous from top to bottom.

Top league of 18
Championship of 16
National of 16

Play each team twice, none of these daft f*cking splits.
Start in line with the EPL.
3 week winter break.

Will never happen but that's how it should be.

I'm not too clued in on this.

But shouldn't Rangers just stop whinging and just be happy they are actually allowed to play football at all?

What they think about anything shouldn't even be news.

Jock's suggestion sounds perfect to me.

It is a sign of how daft these ideas are that Rangers are on the right side of the argument for once. The "top eight" to fight out European places and the league title? FFS

Exactly. Imagining finishing ninth but then winning the last 14 games and finishing with a higher points total than all but two or three of the top eight. Idiocy. Should have stayed with the 10-team divisions, double home-and-away, no fanning about.

Seems overly complicated and doesn't really address the issue of two clubs holding all the wealth and the rest being insolvent.

would this be an excuse for rangers to join the english league?
FIFA point blank refuse to sanction it, besides they'll have absolutely no chance if the Scot's insist on independence. They're(Rangers/Old Firm)only hope is some kind of Euro Super League which to be frank isn't looking likely either.

If Rangers were still in the SPL, they'd be all for these changes and not give one shiny rat's arse about the plight of whoever was on course for promotion from the third division.

For that reason, even though they're completely right to be outraged, f*** 'em.
