Schools !!

My 80 year old neighbour pointed out that he missed a lot of education for years during ww2 and the evacuation. My parents are of the same ilk

I have to say - his generation didn't seem to suffer. Way more resourceful, rounded, independent of thought and knowledgeable than the youngsters I've seen the national curriculum churn out in 30 years of teaching. Its not ideal but I wouldn't worry too much.

Being shut is a complete disgrace !

A generation of no learning, that is a massive worry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When you say generation, did you mean to write 9 months?
My kids were due to take their A-levels and GCSEs this year, they have had online lessons for 4 months snd been in school for three months since the cv19 outbreak. They’ll both go on to Uni/further education next year.
Its not as bad as you think

If you saw that video of the youngsters being asked questions then we have nothing to worry about.
One question was ‘what language do they speak in the USA’
A lot of these young scumbags didn’t know. Too busy shooting and stabbing each other.
Bring back conscription I say

What utter guff is this? There is no "generation of no learning". Some school buildings may be closed, and there is a reduced number of children physically attending school in person at the moment but every teacher I know (and off the top of my head that's at least twenty amongst my circle of friends and in my extended family, including a headteacher and two deputy heads, in both the state and the private sector and across every age range) is teaching full time as per normal - they're doing most of it online but many are still dealing with small groups of key worker children too. Ironically this makes their working days even longer than usual.

I bet they, like everyone in the NHS, is just in on "the hoax" though, right? All just agents of an evil Tory conspiracy.

My regards to them mate. Most teachers are great.

How do you know so many teachers???? I feel sorry for the vulnerable kids stuck at home. Very sad for them. But yeah my brother is deputy head, happy he no longer has to get up at 6 to commute

Wife, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law all teach full-time. (3)
I volunteered in my wife's school for several months and remain friends with several of the staff. (5 or 6 more)
Trained as a teacher myself and remain friends with some of those I trained/worked with. (Another 8 or 10)
Three of my closest friends all teach. (and one of them is married to another teacher)
I used to coach and referee a couple of sports at my local university, at the campus where the teacher training courses were delivered. Loads of my former players have gone into teaching and I'm still in touch with at least a dozen of them.
