Boss film.

Anyway, I was wondering if someone on here could settle a little deabte me and a mate are having.

I watched this yesterday for the first time in ages.

But would it really happen? Would they have risked a squadron of 8 or 9 men to extract 1? So risk 9 lives to save 1? Even if it was good propaganda, i just can't see it, no matter what the circumstances.

My mate reckons they would have done this, but it doesn't seem right to me.

Anyone know for sure?

While people have a think about this, here's some Saving Priavte Ryan facts:

Body count: 206

All the principal actors underwent several days of grueling army training - except for Matt Damon, who was spared so that the other actors would resent him, and would convey that resentment in their performances.

The two German Tiger tanks in the movie were in fact Russian T-34 tanks modified to appear as convincing Tiger tanks. You can see the difference between these fake Tigers and the real ones by the differing road wheels.

For the initial battle scenes in the sea, spare ammunition carried by the actors was made from wood, as metal was too heavy.

Two of the landing craft used in the Omaha Beach scenes were actually in use in World War II.

I watched it Sunday....weird...I'm pretty sure yes is the answer

Anyway, more importantly ijjotron 3000, without cheating....anyone know who this guy is?

Couldn't believe it when I found out (not everyone will know him) but I love his brief appearance in the film

Top 5 favourite. I choke up every single bloody time I watch it.

Body count of only 206 though? Surely it's more? 40 get knocked off at Omaha in a boat before the ramp even fully goes out into the sea.

Jumping straight into this one Alio, don't know the actors name, but he's a lead in Remember The Titans is he not?

I bet either everyone cheats or no one knows him...

Alio's great quiz questions are back...

Is that Gerry Bertier?

Found this too Ijjy:

Q: Is the film based upon a true story?

A: Yes but rather loosely. The real Private Ryan was Private Fritz Niland of the 101st Airborne Division. Two of his brothers were killed at Normandy and a third was reported missing and presumed dead in Burma. The Army issued an order to bring Private Niland home but nobody was sent looking for him because nobody knew where he was. He was found two weeks later, unaware of what had transpired. His brother in Burma later turned up alive.
