Saving methods

I don't see the point in saving money. I have insurances and a good pension going, I see what I earn is mine to spend.

I only save for the more expensive luxuries like holidays or cars, I never save just to have a lump of money sitting in the bank.

I wish I was better at saving.

I have a £1 jar that whenever I have a £1 in my wallet I chuck it in. Have got about £300 in that. I have a savings policy that I put in at least £50 a month sometimes up to £200 if I am having a quiet month. Also when I dont have to council tax and water rates in Jan & Feb I chuck that in there too.

Buy a GrandOldTeam mug

Sell all your current mugs on eBay.

What?

How about:

Buy a GrandOldTeam mug, and put 1x two Pounds coin in on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, then sell all your other mugs on eBay.

Should be easily 300 quid up end of the year.

I don't take my credit or debit card anywhere. I used to be anti carrying cash, now I always have about £50 on me so I don't use my card

If you live with your missus live off one wage and bank the other one

I can attest to this.

My wife and I lived within my income and saved/invested/enjoyed her income. When my daughter was born, my wife couldn't work for a long time and we were able to cope without extreme cut-backs because her income was largely expendable.

This was more manageable for us than for some as I earn quite a bit more than she did 80/20. It's much harder to do this when spouses earn 50/50 or 60/40.

Find out how much you need to live off a week and put the rest in the bank.

I have 2 accounts, split my money one is for my bills and the other is for general living; out of the general living account i take £100 week to live off and end up putting about £600 a month into my savings, but i know i also have money available if i need stuff

...yep, ISA the best advice. Save what you can afford each week/month (up to approx. £5.7k per tax year), and the interest is tax free. Open up a new one each year, its served me. I'm old but I've got both my kids in the ISA habit.

I know this is the opposite of many people's natural instinct, but I actually put everything on my credit card and very rarely carry cash around with me. Since there's little paper money (generally less than $20 at any given moment), I have to consciously think if I can afford every purchase I make instead of being falsely assured by the other bills in my wallet.

I also pay it off in full every month. I am literally a credit card company's worst nightmare.
