Salford City: Ryan Giggs and ex-Man Utd pros agree takeover
A consortium led by current and former Manchester United players has agreed to purchase non-league Salford City.

Subject to Football Association and Northern Premier League approval, the deal will be completed this summer.

Ryan Giggs, now a player-coach in his 24th season with United, said: "We want to use our football experience and knowledge to nurture young talent."

Former United team-mates Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville join Giggs in the venture.

Is this Salford "reds" set up as a new Man U when the glazers bought them?

This done with the knowledge of Utd? Not that they need to know about it I guess, but seems a bit strange. I mean, are they doing it for some alturistic reason, like "putting something back into the city" kinda thing, or some sort of statement about the current Utd set up?

Odd.

Think they are all local lads, probably just something to keep them all in contact with each other, a project of sorts, wouldnt be surprised to see them play a few games.

Cant see it affecting their current jobs or United having any issue with it at all.

Yeah, probably right there.

I am amazed at the coverage this is getting. An item on the ITV National News, and the main story on the BBC Football website. Salford City play in front of crowds of 150 people. They're in the same division as Prescot Cables.

If moyes stays - it will be their local derby in 10 years time
Salford City manager David Moyes issues rallying cry. "Our players need to aspire to be as good as Prescott Cables" said the former Preston, Everton, Man Utd, Notts Forest and Raith Rovers manager. "Until that day arrives, we'll just keep doing what we do".

Prescot Cables were once a decent little side......and they existed before the RS.....
