Need some advice.

Been offered a job which I’m really happy with. Suits me down to the ground with work hours and travel.

However it’s 2k a year less than I was wanting. In the grand scheme of things, that’s not much but would help out massively. Considering I’ve basically big their hand off for the job, does that ruin my opportunity for a negotiation on pay? From the feedback I’ve received they appear to be very keen on me however I don’t want to ruin any good rapport I have set up with them by sounding a bit cheeky.

Apart from sawdust or putting myself in rice, any advice?

All you can do is ask. They'll be under no impression you are working for the sheer fun of it, all work is purely based on finances - tell them straight, it's less than £40 a week so it's not cheeky at all IMO.

Yeh that’s how I worked it out as. Not much at all. However with coming from a military background and no history of negotiating salaries I was unsure on how this is looked upon.

Every group is different in how they think about pay but many firms, especially small shops, will pay extra for the right fit because that’s more important than an extra 2k. An ill fit costs far more than that.

So ask.

I did it once and they said yes so easily, i was annoyed I didn't ask for more lol. It's like they expected it.

I think it's normal to have one go at it.

...I’d have thought the salary was included in the job advert. If so, you applied for and got that post with that salary.

Unless it said ‘salary negotiable’, I’d be a bit wary of asking for more. Saying that, I worked in the public sector for 40 years, so negotiating salary was never within my remit.

Regardless, many congratulations on getting the job, you should be proud of yourself.

It's really normal non public sector and not many places advertise the full wage scope these days, or even mention the wage in monetary value.

Thanks mate. The position was advertised as contract with a daily rate between two figures. Now they want me as permanent so that’s why the ambiguity with the salary negotiation comes in. I’ve asked anyway and will see what they say.
